  • Megan was very helpful in helping us pull our event together. She talked with us about the different family concerns, details, and logistics for our event. She suggested a wonderful musician for our event and helped give the confidence we needed to really make our event as we wanted it- personalized. I recommend Megan to anyone looking to have an event. She really helped make our day special!

  • Megan from Pencil Events was amazing! As a wedding planner myself, I planned everything for our wedding. But I needed someone to come in on the day of our wedding and make it all happen. That was Megan! When she arrived at our condo, I instantly felt at ease. I knew she'd handle all the details to make sure the room looked the way I wanted it to and all of the vendors were taken care of. I'm so thankful to have worked with Megan - she allowed me to stop being the planner and start being the bride!

  • About two months out from our wedding date, we realized that we needed some help to pull off our vision of a Maine camp wedding. Megan stepped in immediately to help put the finishing touches on that vision and lay out a plan of attack for making it all happen. She was a CHAMPION the weekend of the event. We couldn't have done this with out her.

  • We had a wonderful wedding that was fun, creative, and somewhat complicated with all the different elements that we wanted to include. Pencil Events, aka Megan, made planning and the actual wedding day so easy and enjoyable. Megan helped us with everything throughout the 10 month wedding planning process, from helping us come up with a vision of how we wanted the day to look, to choosing table runners, to crafting the ceremony from scratch, to creating the beautiful bridal bouquets and flower arrangements, to setting out the dessert on platters after dinner. We live in New York City but wanted to get married in Portland, so having a wedding planner to help in the long distance arrangements was important to us. We met with Megan during all of our planning trips to Portland, and there were plenty additional of Skype meetings, phone calls, emails and text messages in between. Megan is super creative, organized, thoughtful, and is a great listener. She was mindful of our budget. She ma... Read more

  • When I arrived at my baby shower the first thing I saw was behind the heavy wood doors of the old town grange was an antique dress-maker's bust wrapped in persimmon pashminas with a hand written sign that said "Swaddle yourself." This was no ordinary pastel shower: it was a bold, brave Pencil Events baby shower! The room radiated with persimmon and pink pumpkins, flowers, and fabrics. A craft table of toy blocks for guests to paint was set up on one end of the hall, with a banquet table bedecked with candlesticks, bright flowers in antique milk bottles, and yarn tassels stood opposite. And a table of pumpkin bisque and other delectables with glorious smells drew guests in. But Megan, curator of Pencil Events, does so much more than a beautiful table-scape. She brings people together. The block-painting project, baby games, and even gift-opening were all crafted in such a way to bring together the group of twenty women, many of whom were strangers. A good time was had by all on ... Read more

  • We hired Megan for our wedding. She was pleasant to work with leading up to the wedding and has a great design eye which is a huge help. However, on the wedding day we were disappointed. She at times seemed unorganized and several guests commented to us that she was somewhat unprofessional towards them which was one of the most disappointing things to hear about your wedding.

    responded with the following comments.

This review brings me great sadness for two reasons. The first is that it comes so long after wedding season 2013. This tells me how long you, one of my couples, has carried the disappointment you've felt about your wedding. That is a long time! I feel so personally invested in not only the long term happiness of the couples with whom I work but, importantly, their immediate satisfaction in the wedding. The anonymity of this review is understandable but makes it difficult to respond to in specifics. What I can say is that I poured heart, care, and hours into every one of my 2013 weddings. This says to me that we had different expectations for what your needs were and how I could best meet them--I regret that we did not detect this prior to the wedding as I would have continued to pour heart, care, and hours into reconciling my expectations with yours. What I will do in future is more clearly communicate with couples about their expectations for my role and how to manage situations with their loved ones when there is role confusion. The second source of sadness comes from the comment about my being unprofessional--a word I have never known used to describe me. I hope (and suspect) that what has been described as unprofessional was in fact a misunderstanding that I wish I could have made right more immediately following the wedding. Regardless, know that I have taken to heart that my professionalism is not taken for granted. Although it will be more difficult at this distance out from the date, I'd still love to have a reflective conversation if you so choose to reach out. In either case, I wish you great joy in marriage. Thank you; giving difficult feedback is a brave act.
