  • Overall, we had a wonderful experience having our wedding at Jewel Hospitality's event location The Canal. Due to WeddingWire's limited characters, our full review didn't fit here. • I was married in October 2015 at the Ballard Bay Club, and it could not have been more perfect! We had a fairly tight budget, and I thought there was no way we'd be able to afford a water front property, so we were over the moon when we found the Ballard Bay Club. It's located right on Puget Sound.... we booked the north room, which has floor-to-ceiling windows with a absolutely gorgeous view of the sound. The room was the perfect size for our wedding (75 guests). We used the single room for both the ceremony and the reception. The room had a section by the windows where we had the ceremony, and was later turned into the dance floor, and a raised platform separated by a low wall where all the tables were set up for dinner. The staff was amazing to work with! We met with them a couple of times to go over what we wanted, and on the day of the wedding everything went so smoothly I didn't have to worry about anything! They handled set up and tear down of the tables, chairs, etc. and provid... Read more

  • My wife and I were married at The Canal in Ballard this summer. We signed a contract with Jewel about 1.5 years before the event. Their contract was thorough and concise. We did plenty of research beforehand to make sure we were covered - whether through Jewel or by our other vendors. The staff was responsive to our questions - they would usually take a couple days to respond, but I'm sure they are also responding to several other couples including couples with a closer wedding date. The staff at The Canal and Jewel Hospitality could not have made our wedding more memorable or more enjoyable the day of the event. The service was fantastic from start to finish. Very professional staff and open and honest when asked questions. All of our guests raved about the food and venue. Most people had second or third helpings.

  • I recently had my wedding at the Canal and had an amazing experience! The venue itself is right on the water, and has a stunning interior! Marcia, Liz and all the staff at the wedding were absolutely amazing to work with and had a HUGE part in making my day as special as possible! When I started the whole wedding planning process, I was very nervous. There just seem to be so many details to think about! Thank god for Liz and Marcia! They truly are experts at what they do, and had wonderful suggestions that addressed all of my concerns, down to the smallest detail. They even had a preferred vendor list, and I ended up selecting all my vendors from that list. I did my own research too, but in the end, all of my final choices were the vendors that Jewel Hospitality recommended. They clearly did a lot of research to make sure that I was well taken care of! The day of the wedding was so much more than I expected! The staff there were so attentive to us, one of them even b... Read more

  • I had my wedding at Jewel's venue "The Canal" in Ballard. This location was perfect for us with high ceilings, a bit of a warehouse feel with a bar in tact. I actually had called Jewel to check out Stimson Green and it was too small, but when I described that I wanted by the water, big, and ready for about 150 guest Michelle suggested I look at the Canal. I walked in and LOVED it. I signed up for a friday wedding in the spring to save money, I was happy to use their catering, it was AMAZING. Actually so much so I also used their cupcakes after tasting many theirs were the best. My guests are still talking about the food. For me, it was perfect, easy and Luba made any question I had a priority.

  • My husband and I were extremely disappointed in Jewel Hospitality and the Ballard Bay Club. Jewel completely lacked communication, professionalism, follow through, and basic customer service. I would never recommend Jewel based on our experience and strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. 1. Wedding Tasting - Jewel invites all of their bride and grooms to participate in a single tasting event. I thought this was a great idea because it would provide insight into how they would perform on game day. We tasted nearly everything available and felt most of the food was below expectations and had deep reservations about serving it to our guests. For example, much of the food was cold and under seasoned (the filet, roast, salmon), overly greasy (crab cakes), and generally poorly presented. We reached out to our manager to express our concerns. The owner, Marcia, told us that we were the only ones who felt the food lacked taste and that everyone else who attended absolutely raved about th... Read more

  • I recently had my wedding ceremony and reception at The Canal. Almost everything leading up to it was chaotic but the actual wedding day went beautifully and smoothly. Although I didn’t get my wedding topper back that I had made, nor did we leave with any wedding cake (I am almost positive it was not all eaten, and I never had a slice, besides a bite from cutting the cake) When we originally booked our wedding at The Canal we were working with Luba (wedding coordinator) She answered all of my emails in a timely manner and answered all of my questions as well. But a few months into our booking we received an email from Marcia Evans (CEO) that stated that we were getting a new wedding coordinator/ Event Manager, her name is Liz. The email said we could contact Marcia with any questions, as well as giving me Liz's email address. I waited about a week to contact Marcia about when I should start emailing Liz with any questions I may have since I was sure she had a lot of training going on... Read more

  • The staff were responsive, professional and flexible. The space is lovely and warm; it didn't need any additional decorations. I liked being able to have a "turn key" space. Also the food was excellent (the green beans were amazing. Seriously, the green beans). There didn't seem to be enough little desserts on the dessert buffet, but my family hits a dessert buffet hard and I should have offered to pay for more. I'd say a good portion of the party didn't get any. Those that did said they were amazing. The specialty drink was awesome and I wish I'd written down which wine they ordered for me; it was great too. I worried about the dim light & big windows for a winter, night wedding & photos. But the photos that I've seen so far are warm and lovely.

  • The day we visited the Ballard Bay club to see it, and the day of our wedding, things were absolutely amazing.... The sales staff, and the catering staff were perfect. However, the 9 months between the two were stressful and challenging as the event staff at Jewel was had very poor communication and it would take 4-5 emails to get a response from them. Our wedding was pretty straight forward and very few vendors. It wasn't until my wedding coordinator talked to the CEO of Jewel and I started cc'ing her on all emails did the those under her start responding. When I read other reviews, I saw that others were experiencing the same thing. I loved the Ballard Bay Club, but Jewel was a bit of a nightmare to deal with. Thank goodness for a great wedding coordinator who advocated on our behalf! We would recommend the venue but would be hesitant to recommend Jewel due to the frustration I went through in dealing with them.

  • I had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Ballard Bay Club which is one of Jewel's venues. Initial experience with Jewel sales associate (Michelle) and my first event manager (Luba) were great. I attended their annual tasting in February which was well done and a great opportunity to taste their food to pick out our menu. In March, a little more than a month before my wedding, Luba left and we were assigned a new event manager and assistant event manager. Communication from then out was very bad. I would send emails and have to follow up three to four times to get a response. The three weeks before my wedding I was in tears more than once in frustration over the lack of communication and response I was getting from the event manager. I offered to come out in person to their office if that was what they needed to get back to me on my questions. Very poor response time which leads to increase stress during an already stressful time. Another frustration: Jewel re-finished the floors ... Read more

  • We had our ceremony and reception at The Canal in Seattle, which is a venue for Jewel Hospitality who catered the event. It was fantastic. The location is prime, set like it is on the Canal and next to the Ballard Locks. The venue itself is tastefully decorated and we required minimal decorations to create a truly upscale and elegant atmosphere. The staff during the event were fabulous and they went above and beyond to accommodate our ceremony and reception. My husband and I only had to request something (AC turned up, champagne poured for toasts or cupcakes boxed) and it happened within 5 minutes. Not only that, but the food, drinks and presentation was fabulous. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and everything was well seasoned. As foodies, my husband and I are very happy with how the food turned out. I have had so many of our guests tell us that the food and food presentation was the best they had ever seen at a wedding. No Big Deal!! Anyways, the only issue we had with Je... Read more

  • We just had our wedding and reception at The Canal on 9/8. It is a modern looking venue with wonderful water views. Jewel’s contract for the space prohibits attaching certain kinds of décor in certain ways – but we found the space to be interesting enough in itself and thought it required very little decoration. Sales Associate Michelle was very helpful in answering our laundry list of questions at our first meeting. Coordinator Luba was also very helpful at answering additional questions and providing prompt responses regarding details. Service on the day of was very attentive. We had a server who brought my new hubby and I drinks and apps in case we hadn’t gotten any ourselves. The buffet layout was beautiful and tasty. Although we had to trust online reviews that the food was good because we missed the actual tasting that was offered. We had no problem with payment scheduling. Jewel gives a pretty clear cut layout in their contract when payments are due. T... Read more

  • Overall we were pretty pleased with The Canal. Jewel hospitality was quick to respond to emails and was pretty accommodating. I only had a couple of complaints. When we reserved the canal we were told there would be an open house where we would be able to taste the food before our event. Later down the road we were told this wouldn't be happening. This caused a great deal of anxiety since we went into our wedding day not know if the food we had paid for was even good or not. Thankfully the food was delicious and our guests all commented on how great it was. My other big concern was involving our wedding cake. After we sliced the cake it was taken away. We had a dessert buffet so our guests ate those desserts but we were pretty upset that our whole cake was thrown away and we weren't able to save a piece for our anniversary. All in all we were pretty happy, the food and location were great I'm just a little heart broken over my cake.

  • We had our wedding at the Canal - a beautiful, beautiful venue. The venue was fabulous. The food was fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely work with Jewel again because this was so great. However, their management left a bit to be desired. Everytime I called them my contact there was super friendly, helpful and accommodating. But they didn't always return calls or emails in a timely fashion. They didn't let me know when payments were due - I kept track of this myself -, and I had several problems with their calculations of our charges. I HIGHLY recommend checking their math. I kept my own spreadsheet. They miscalculated on at least 2 separate occasions, both of which I brought to their attention. They initially charged a service fee on items they shouldn't have, and they charged 10% sales tax when it should have been 9.5%. This really annoyed me, but as I said I LOVED the venue, and everything the day of was fabulous! so I would recommend them.
