  • Words can't express how great it was working with Alan and Whitney! We did an engagement shoot with them in February and then they shot our wedding 11 months later. Both experiences were flawless. Not only are we so happy with our photos but we had a fun experience along the way! They work well as a team and provide the right amount of guidance while also not making the experience "posed". We really felt like we were friends with them and trusted their advice along the way. They were also efficient yet made sure to get the important shots that we needed. For example, our wedding party was so happy that they didn't have to stand around for a long time for photos since it was cold out. I could really go on and on and I have zero regrets about working with them. I planned our wedding from Chicago so selecting vendors was really difficult and I'm so glad I found GG because we have the best pictures to remember our wedding weekend and engagements AND we had a great time working with them! • We absolutely loved working with Grey Giraffe! Whitney and Alan were the most flexible, communicative, and professional vendors we worked with throughout the whole wedding process. I was really overwhelmed because this was a destination wedding, so there wasn't any time to do practice shoots- but honestly, it didn't matter with these two!! They made my husband/me feel so comfortable and captured our day perfectly. When our wedding party transportation was messed up, they were so flexible and pushed back their own dinner/break so they could capture pictures of the wedding party before the ceremony. I cannot say enough how grateful I am for all of their hard work and would recommend them to ANYONE looking for AMAZING photographers!!!!

  • We absolutely LOVED working with Alan and Whitney on our wedding day and they were one of the greatest parts of the day. They made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and helped us to really enjoy the process of taking photos! They also were very understanding of our family dynamics and were so helpful in coordinating all of the different photos that we needed. They were really flexible on the day and everything went so smoothly thanks to their organization. I can't express how grateful we were for them being a part of our wedding day and would HIGHLY recommend them.

  • Alan and Whitney are a joy to work with and phenomenal at what they do. We met them in March for our engagements and then had them capture our wedding in May. They were more than willing to work with us during all the COVID craziness as we made changes and tried to finalize plans. Communication was always timely. Not only are they professional, but they are SO FUN to be around. They made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and caught so many fun candid moments at our wedding. We had several of our guests comment about how much they loved the photographers. The images we got back from Grey Giraffe were beautiful and captured so many moments between my husband and I as well as our guests that we will cherish forever. You will not regret choosing Grey Giraffe!

  • My fiance and I were initially nervous about taking engagement photos. It could have felt awkward and staged, but Whitney and Alan were so FUN and instantly put us at ease. They were creative in using the light, shadow, and environment around us to create playful, sexy, and natural photos unique to our personalities and special day. We would 100% recommend Grey Giraffe for your photo needs! And if we lived closer to Utah, we'd honestly want to befriend them both!

  • We were so impressed with Alan from Grey Giraffe from the beginning. Out of the photographers we contacted he seemed to really care about getting to know us and providing photographs that reflected us and the memories we wanted from our wedding. On the day of the wedding he was great to work with. The pictures turned out beautifully, we are so happy with our photos and our experience with Grey Giraffe!

  • Look no further than Grey Giraffe for all your wedding needs! Hiring Alan and Whitney was by far one of the best decisions we made for our wedding and the events leading up to it! Not only were they incredibly fun to shoot with, but they have a very special dynamic when working together that allowed for the best shots to come alive. Honestly - I was blown away every time I checked our portfolio for new pictures. We hired them for the full wedding package - engagements, bridals and full day-of and I wouldn't change a thing. They were responsive, punctual and professional. We received our engagement photos back within two weeks of shooting and our full wedding portfolio was completed in record time. Grey Giraffe succeeded and more in getting all the "basic shots" while also telling our story through the creative lens in ways other photographers can't capture. I can't praise them enough and my wedding photos will be cherished for many years to come.

  • Grey Giraffe made our wedding photography dreams come true and MORE. No one compares to their quality and creativity. First, they are just the most fun people to hang out with. Second, we were blown away at how they captured every shot perfectly: candid, posed, and everything in between. We couldn't help but get emotional when we got our edited photos back. You can tell that time and energy went into every single photo. GGP even traveled to southern Utah with us for some post-wedding photos! We cannot say enough amazing things about Grey Giraffe Photography.

  • Alan and Whitney were so incredible to work with. They came recommended after a friend's wedding and they did not disappoint. They were easy to contact with very fair pricing and lots of options for photography packages. Not to mention how accommodating they were given our last minute change of plans due to COVID. They even helped us plan a new date and location for our elopement. We just got our photos back and they are gorgeous! Would recommend Grey Giraffe to anyone!

  • Where do I even begin?! Words can’t express how much we love Alan and Whitney and how thankful we are for them! I came across Grey Giraffe Photography on Instagram and instantly fell in love with their work. My husband and I really wanted our day to be filled with adventure and intimate, and Alan & Whitney gave us that and more. They made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera, and every time we look at our beautiful wedding photos we can still feel all the emotions we felt on our special day. So many decisions go into planning a wedding, but having Alan and Whitney capture your day is one decision you’ll never regret!

  • We had the most amazing experience with Grey Giraffe Photography. Alan and Whitney were very quick to respond when we first reached out and they helped us customize a photography/videography package that was perfect for our wedding weekend. Alan shot our Engagements about a year before our wedding and did the most incredible job! We had never done a formal photo shoot together as a couple and he made us feel so comfortable and at ease. Alan was so in tune with our style and personalities and it shows in our photos. Alan and Whitney made sure to check in with us through the months that followed and leading up until our Wedding. We opted to have two hours of photography for a welcome cocktail party the night before, and two photographers and a videographer for the entirety of our wedding day. We couldn't be happier with the results! We will forever be grateful for our wedding video and the hundreds of photos that so perfectly captured our day. If you are looking for a photographer for... • We booked Alan for our engagements and our wedding photos after seeing the Grey Giraffe portfolio. Their photos were the perfect blend of natural and warm, everything we envisioned for our wedding! Alan made our engagement photos as painless as possible for two people who don’t really know how to take photos. It was also snowing and 30 degrees and he didn’t complain once! I have had endless compliments on the photo gallery, and I’m thrilled that they will be shooting our wedding also! PS- Alan also included a photo of my dad’s car in our album after I talked about what a car nut my dad was. This made for the most perfect Christmas gift! Thank you again Alan!!!

  • Alan was PHENOMENAL! Our wedding was August at Solitude and Alan was nothing short of amazing the entire weekend. We planned our wedding from afar and he was very professional and organized leading up to the big weekend. We had a chance to meet him for the first time over coffee several days before our wedding, and immediately made us very excited. Since my husband and I wanted to do a first look before the wedding, I ended up spending a fair amount of time with Alan as he snapped getting ready pictures and then drove me to the first look spot. Not only did he pick the perfect location for pictures, but he was so genuinely kind the entire day. His eye was fantastic - our pictures are a perfect blend of artsy, whimsical and classic. We are THRILLED with our pictures and couldn't ask for a better photographer.

  • We hired Grey Giraffe Photography about 3 months before our wedding. About one month before the wedding the owners, husband and wife team, Alan and Whitney, said they would not be able to make it as something had come up, but they had a stand-in who worked for them by the name of Alyssa. We incorrectly assumed that they would fill Alyssa in on what we wanted and the vision we had of what photos/shots we wanted. Alyssa took forever to get back with us or even respond to our emails, but eventually confirmed via email that she received our "shot" list. She only got about half of our shot list and missed an extremely one-time only shot that was requested and often repeated, including by our wedding coordinator and the bride right before the ceremony. A lot of the photos are blurry, and she continuously used a garage as our background even though we were at a very beautiful mountain wedding venue. We did not move from the garage until we specifically asked to. She also did not get on... Read more

    responded with the following comments.

Larry & Liz: We were so disappointed to receive these reviews tonight and are definitely disappointed that you did not have a good experience. However, we think much of what you are claiming is not a fair representation of the facts, so we would like to respond to each point in your review. For reference, here is a blog post highlighting your wedding: http://greygiraffe.com/blog/2021/4/liz-amp-larry-wedding 1. "We incorrectly assumed that they would fill Alyssa in on what we wanted and the vision we had of what photos/shots we wanted." Response: I am not entirely sure what you mean here, but we did have a conversation with Alyssa about your wedding before making introducing her to you. She also spent ample time working with you on your vision beforehand, including talking on the phone with you and sending out a questionnaire to get to know you better. Not understanding your complaint here. 2. "Alyssa took forever to get back with us or even respond to our emails.." Response: You emailed Alyssa on 9/14 at 1:38pm requesting a meeting, she responded to you the very same day at 9:14pm and confirmed the appt. time. On 9/28, the day of the scheduled meeting, you sent her an email to confirm and she responded an hour late confirming her availability for either a voice or video chat that afternoon. In all the correspondence we have seen, Alyssa responded both quickly and professionally. 3. "..but eventually confirmed via email that she received our 'shot' list. She only got about half of our shot list and missed an extremely one-time only shot..." Response: Alyssa sent you a questionnaire before the wedding and asked if there were any specific shots you wanted. The only shot you specifically mentioned in here was a group shot of everyone. Alyssa was able to get that shot. I believe you may have also requested at another time a shot of your first kiss with all the guest reactions in it. Unfortunately, since you were in a covered gazebo, and the guests were in full sun, there was no way to get this shot. Cameras cannot expose for two completely different lighting scenarios in the same shot. She would have either had to expose for you, or you guests, but not both in the same shot. Also, the photos she did get of the first kiss are objectively beautiful and artistically captured in every way. 4. "A lot of the photos are blurry..." Response: I just looked through your gallery again, and do not see these blurry photos you are referring to. Your wedding was captured beautifully and artistically and we fully stand by the work. Additionally, I will say, a photo being blurry does not automatically make it a bad photo either. But, again, in your case, I am not seeing blurry photos in the gallery. 5. "she continuously used a garage as our background even though we were at a very beautiful mountain wedding venue." Response: Whether it is a garage or not, the photos were captured and composed wonderfully. Alyssa framed the photos based on a number of elements, among them being the lighting. The angle facing the mountain was not, in Alyssa’s professional opinion, the best lighting. As wedding photographers, our first priority when thinking about lighting is to expose for people, not the scenery. In this case, getting the mountains in the background (which were far away in the distance) was not possible. 6. "We did not move from the garage until we specifically asked to.." Response: Alyssa made a creative judgement call to do the photos where she did. The photos she got are very good and we stand by them. When you asked her to move and shoot somewhere different, she did as she was asked cheerfully. 7. "She also did not get one single shot of just us (the bride & groom) facing the camera." Response: This is categorically untrue. There are at least 5 formal photos where you are both facing and looking at the camera. 8. "The only direction we received was “Look lovingly at each other”, and “You’re naturals, keep doing that.” By looking at the photos sent to us, there is little to no variation of poses, just us looking at each other." Response: Again, if you look at the blog post, you will see that there is a good variety of images and poses, and you both look beautiful in all of them. When you inquired, we shared with you this about what our style is: “the way we approach our photography is all about responding creatively to the day to capture your authentic personalities. It is about crafting a visual narrative of your wedding day/weekend and love for each other in a real way by capturing all those little details and unseen in-between moments, in addition to all the traditional shots that mom’s love. It’s letting things happen and documenting it honestly and artistically.” And when we emailed you about needing to work with Alyssa, we described her style to you in the following way: "Alyssa is very similar to us in that her focus is on storytelling. She captures the family pictures, etc. but really specializes in documenting authentic details, moments, and emotion to create a visual narrative of your day. She has a remarkable eye for light and moments.” I don’t know how we could have been clearer. Your gallery is reflective of the way we always shoot. 9. "Not one traditional portrait pose. This is not what we had discussed with the owners..." Response: Read the response to the last item. We always try to get a few traditional posed shots, but our style is very much about capturing authentic and real moments and interactions between our couples. We are clear about that on our website, and were clear about that in our correspondence with you when you were looking into booking us. In looking through your gallery, you have a nice mix of both. 10. "ever had the opportunity to discuss with Alyssa our replacement photographer." Response: We already addressed this above. You emailed and spoke with Alyssa before the wedding on many occasions. She was responsive and professional in every way. 11. "We tried contacting Grey Giraffe Photography after we received our photos and realized they were not what we had agreed upon with Alan and Whitney, but they have completely ignored our emails." Response: You did send us a lengthy letter. And it is true that we did not respond to it. This is because (a) you did not ask us any questions nor did you ask us to respond and (b) the letter was very condescending and aggressive. We simply felt that the best option was to let you say your piece and for both parties to move on. I will respond to one comment you made in the letter where, at the end of the letter, you said the entire “point of this letter is simply to let you know how utterly devastated we are with the product and for you to perhaps have some training or at least have a talk with Alyssa about the quality of her work.” To respond, I will say that Alyssa has been shooting and documenting weddings at a very high level for more than 10 years. She has a BFA in photography, as well. She has been shooting with us for many years. Her work speaks for herself. She is highly qualified, well-respected, and does not deserve to be talked about in such derogatory terms. She documented your wedding honestly and artistically. We stand by her completely. 12. "We do not recommend them, at all." Response: Bottom line: art is subjective. Clearly, we were not a good fit for each other. However, we did our very best to be upfront about how we shoot. We were professional in every way, fulfilled every measure of the contract, and even delivered your photos to you early. A 1-star review is not a fair or honest reflection of either us or our work.
