  • My husband and I got married in July of 2017 at 19 East and used Food for Thought, their exclusive Caterer. Kendall was our event coordinator and we could not possibly have had a more perfect wedding day from start to finish. Kendall was so amazing throughout the entire process - she was so genuine, thoughtful and kind, so willing to assist with anything we may need, and went above and beyond in giving advice that Brides need to hear leading up to their wedding day. The tasting we had with her was so memorable - she made it so fun and both of our parents had such a great time. Not only was Kendall a 5 star event coordinator, but 19 East is an AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL venue! The food was out of this world as well. It was so hot and fresh, our friends are still raving about the food to this day (and most of our friends are Chicago "foodies"). I have had many relatives and friends recently engaged inquire about this Caterer and venue - and I could not be more pleased to recommend!

  • FFT did the catering for our wedding, which included about 175 people. Everything from start to finish was outstanding. Annie Schey was very responsive to all of our (very many) questions and emails, the food was amazing (and all allergies and dietary needs easily met), and the staff was outstanding. We could not recommend them more highly.

  • In early March, Wolfgang Puck decided to abandon its wedding clients, disregarding our contract for my daughter’s wedding on July 8 and pulling out of Chicago. They blindsighted us. However, shortly after their disappointing announcement, I received an email from John Rudy, the vice president of catering for Food for Thought, offering his company’s assistance in picking up where WP left off. I’m very grateful for that email. Food for Thought turned out to be better than expected (and I’m sure better than WP would have been). From our first encounter with John to the tasting and organizational work of Annie Schey, our sales consultant, to the night of the reception, the folks and food from Food for Thought were wonderful. Not only was their service impeccable during the reception, but their food was also delicious. Their chef and kitchen staff prepared gourmet appetizers, salads and entrées. In addition, they accommodated every complicated allergy and food request fro... Read more

  • I am a Wedding Planner with Storybook Weddings in Chicago, and I had the pleasure of working with Anna at Adler Planetarium this past weekend. She was FANTASTIC to work with, from beginning to end. The experience with her was so great that I had another couple book with her, and I will continue to recommend her and her company. They do an excellent job during their food tastings, and are very willing to work with your requests. On event day, their staff is quick to set up, they are friendly and professional. Their food presentation is fantastic and of course tastes awesome. I highly recommend Food For Thought for catering any event!

  • We worked with Food for Thought in September 201 for our wedding reception at the Bridgeport Art Center Sculpture Garden. They were referred to us by the venue. From the beginning, Food for Thought made us feel #1. From the attention to detail with personal touches and generous take-homes at the tasting, we were impressed with not only how the food looked, tasted, and the variety/options but we really liked every person with whom we came into contact. Food for Thought remained completely transparent throughout the entire process. From personnel changes, to a detailed walk-through of the venue, seating, and helping us with last minute details. On the evening on our wedding, we sat in the green room (bridal suite) for about half an hour before taking the big walk down the aisle. Just right outside our door, we could hear their staff meticulously going over the who, what, where, when, and how’s of the evening. We could hear how detailed the evening would be run and how many tim... Read more

  • Food for Thought was the contracted caterer and bartender for our venue (the school of the art institute) and while we didn't have a choice in using them, I'm glad we worked together - they were fantastic! We worked with Kendall, though I've heard wonderful things about a lot of the coordinators from Food for Thought, and she was fantastic - so easy to work with, flexible, organized, and patient when I changed my mind 5000 times during the course of planning. The food: The food was delicious, and they were very accommodating about dietary restrictions, food preferences, and working with all our guests, including those with severe allergies such as celiac. I really got the sense that all of their staff was well educated on food allergies and really openminded. We did a plated dinner with the options of a purple potato lasagna, salmon, or braised beef, and everyone said it was one of the best wedding dinners they've ever had. Flavorful, hot, and beautifully plated. The salads... Read more

  • Food for Thought catered our wedding on May 7, 2016 in Chicago at the Humboldt Park Field House. They were amazing and we absolutely loved working with them. I would HIGHLY recommend this caterer! We worked with Lorena, who was absolutely fantastic. Before choosing Food for Thought, we had contacted a couple of other vendors. Some were out of our budget, and some were not responsive at all. One caterer seemed annoyed every time we asked a question. But not Food for Thought! We got quick, clear answers for every question we raised, and we knew that our wedding would be handled professionally and reliably. The food and beverages were also great! Many of the guests commented that they greatly enjoyed the dinner! Also, we are vegetarians (and so are many of our guests) , and Food for Thought was able to offer a vegetarian entree as well as a chicken entree. The beverages were also solid. We had several guests who do not drink alcohol, and Food for Thought provided some fun 'mocktai... Read more

  • FFT was such an amazing company to work with for our wedding. My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better caterer to have worked with. They took care of every wish and idea that we had and executed it perfectly. Our guests are still raving about how amazing the food and presentation was at the wedding! I would highly recommend them, definitely the best in Chicago!

  • OMG...we are talking amazing food. My daughter and her fiance are super foodies. Their life revolves around cooking and beer and this was their dream come true. Jen Vahle and her crew knocked it out of the park. The guests were complimenting everything from the appetizers to the service to the bars. We had our reception at Moonlight Studios, a blank canvas and FFT worked with our planner, Effortless Events, and provided the most efficient floorplan for our 200 guests. The food was great quality, unique, fresh, hot and served in a timely fashion. Thanks, Jen for all of your hard work!

  • Food for Thought is filled with very nice, very responsive folks. We've received compliments on the food from guests, and working with them in the lead up to the wedding was easy. That being said, the actual service at our wedding left a lot to be desired. First, there was a communication issue on the plating, and there were no dinner plates on the table in the initial presentation (we decided to use dinner plates rather than chargers to save some costs). Ok, it would have looked nicer, and the communication issue was frustrating, but in the grand scheme of things, not a huge deal. The bigger issues were with food service itself. Tables were switched which meant people got the wrong orders, including kids who had ordered adult meals getting kids meals and vice versa. We specified a number of allergies that were totally disregarded and luckily caught. And they didn't really seem to have any idea what they were serving. The plating was also pretty mediocre. At the end of the day th... Read more

Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for the opportunity to play a role in your wedding day. You allowing us to work with you on a day that is so special and intimate is rewarding and humbling. We are especially grateful for the time you have taken to provide feedback as we realize the bar is set high. We strive to improve each day and, to do that, your feedback is critical. The team could not be more pleased you received compliments on the meal that evening and that the team was pleasant and responsive. The feedback on the mix ups on the meals is disheartening and we realize the consequences that can occur should a guest come in contact with an ingredient with which they have an allergy. We have looked back at the notes and the circumstances of the evening and addressed those issues to circumvent them in the future. We apologize that these changes came at the expense of any stress created by them. Rest assured the mistakes were not a result of any of the team’s disregard of the guest’s allergies. We are a company made up of very dedicated people who’s goals are to make sure special events like yours are filled with special moments that provide lasting memories. Unfortunately a couple of mistakes made by some of the team created extra work and stress on your end. I wish we could turn back the clock to catch those mistakes but unfortunately I can’t. I apologize on behalf of all of us at Food for Thought that everyone was not perfect as it should have been. Again, thank you so much for the opportunity to play a role in your special day. We will reach out directly to provide you with a special treat to help ensure your first anniversary is a memorable one! Best, John Rudy Vice President, Catering Food For Thought
