  • I can't recommend Eltsa Custom Sewing enough. I have had great experiences with them with other items, so it was a no brainer to take my wedding dress there and they delivered. Very flexible with the timing -- kept allowing me to come back with new shoes before finalizing it, and kept reminding me of the timeline before a rush order would be necessary. Even then, I picked my dress up just 1 week after my final fitting and with only 2 weeks to go before the wedding. Highly recommend.

  • The shop I bought my wedding dress from recommended I bring it to Eltsa for alterations. I was very happy with the work done here. The staff were pleasant and everything was done in a timely way. On top of that, they saved me a couple hundred dollars by suggesting that I skip alterations I was thinking of. And most important of all, the dress looked great.

  • When I bought my wedding dress, I was a size 14. After 6 stressful months of grad school and wedding planning, I dropped to a size 6. I was terrified my dress wouldn't fit anymore since it was so structured and beaded in the middle. It was from a second-hand store too so I couldn't return it to get a smaller size. I searched for a long time, and Eltsa had such great reviews that I felt confident bringing her my dress to alter. Her and the other seamstresses did a fabulous job on my dress, and it fit me perfectly. It only took a few fittings, and they tried to keep the costs down as much as possible. The prices were very reasonable, and they were very professional and upfront about all the costs. They are also just fun to work with! Your outfit is in good hands here. Cash or check only, and you can save some money by using cash! They can take paypal payments as well.

  • I had a complicated dress and I went to SIX seamstresses in Anchorage, AK and none of them were up to the task! In a panic, I called Eltsa right before a business trip to Seattle and they were able to get me in for an initial appointment within 2 days. Then, they worked with me since I was coming from Anchorage to minimize the number of visits. They booked me for an appointment at 10am, and then booked me for the same day at 7pm so they could work on it within the same day. Fortunately, the dress fit almost perfectly when I arrived for my 10am appointment and they were able to make the remaining alterations within the next hour so I could be on my way home to Anchorage early!! In addition to their customer service and flexibility, the sewing itself with perfect and the dress looked like it was made for my body. Plus, the girls were entertaining and fun!

  • I arrived on Eltsa’s doorstep with two dresses, the one I had purchased off the rack and the dress my mother wore at her wedding. It was a very special project for me, seeing as I had lost my mother to cancer a few short months prior to starting my dress transformation, but Margo & Marina listened to my vision and helped me recreate it along the way until my wedding dress was a perfect compilation of mine & my mother’s. The dress I had originally purchased had a beautiful lace bodice but it had a one shoulder top, full of feathers and flowers… beautiful, but not my style. I wanted that one shoulder dress converted into a halter dress, and the material we used to make that halter transformation happen… the pearl belt off my mother’s dress. Her belt became my straps. The transformation was physically beautiful, but spiritually it was so impactful to have my mother hugging my neck all day! Thank you doesn’t even begin to express the gratitude I feel for Eltsa’s sta... Read more

  • Less than a week out from my daughter's wedding we realized the beaded bodice on her strapless wedding dress needed to be taken in. The bridal shop owner was out of the country and we needed help. At first we tried a local dry cleaning place we had worked with; at first they said it would cost several hundred dollars, then said they couldn't do it. After reading Yelp reviews my daughter found Eltsa Custom Sewing. When she called the lady couldn't believe her wedding was the following weekend and miraculously agreed to help. When my daughter put on the dress for the fitting the seamstress pointed out that the hem should also be adjusted, but said simple snipping would do the job and not damage the dress. My husband and daughter went back to pick up the dress two days before the wedding, after work hours, and were moved to tears (of joy!) by the beautiful result. We received nothing but compliments on our daughter's appearance at the wedding, and it would not have been possible wi... Read more

  • Despite the great reviews, I find their customer service to be highly lacking. On my first visit in, one of the women (who I assume to be the owner, Eltsa ) was very harsh. When I asked how much the alteration would be, she yelled at me saying “you probably got your dress in China, that’s why it’s so cheap, and here in Seattle we have a minimum wage”. I was mortified but stayed there anyways. She wouldn’t give me suggestions on how to shorten my dress and kept saying “it’s your dress not mine”. Then when I picked my dress up today one of the girls told me when she ironed it, the iron reacted with my dress and there are orange spots on my dress now. No apologies or a discount on the service. Isn’t it standard procedure to discount the work if you mess up the dress? The same woman who yelled at me before didn’t even acknowledge the orange spots or acknowledge me when I left. But she did make sure to roll her eyes when I said they could keep their plastic garment bag. ... Read more

  • I was very disappointed with my experience with Eltsa Custom Sewing. My dress only needed a hem and a bustle added in and my first appointment was at the end of April for a late August wedding. I had a huge confusion over the bustle where we agreed on one type of bustle and was given a different kind and told that I was wrong from the beginning (even though my friend and I both remember choosing the other kind) and I had an issue with the hem. Specifically, I looked at the dress when I got home, and saw a distinct stripe on the dress. I looked under the layers and found an extremely unprofessional hem completed on the bottom petticoat. I chose to go with a different seamstress to fix this issue because my wedding is less than a month away and from my interactions with the shop's staff up to that point, I did not believe that I would have received what I ask for in a timely matter. • I have a simple dress and needed few alterations. The hem is okay, not great. I will still need to fix my train so that the top layer of lace is longer than the fabric layer underneath. That's not a bit deal; I can fix that. I'm really unimpressed with the alteration on the bust-line. I was told upfront that they would need to create a new seam since my dress doesn't have any seams on the bust. I was expecting the new seam, however, I was not expecting the fabric being put so poorly together that I can see frayed fabric along the new bust seams. From reviews, I knew that Eltsa would cost more than other places, however, I also expected excellent work for the premium price (my alterations cost 75% the cost of the original dress). The final cost was also quite a bit more than the original quote. Unfortunately, I now have a flawed wedding dress with alterations that I will likely try to strategically hide on my wedding day.

  • Eltsa's was amazing! They are willing to give their professional opinion, which I appreciated. Always explained the process as we were going and let me know my options for different ways of altering (while always explaining the price difference as well). My dress fit me like a glove when it was all said and done and I got soooo many compliments and I felt beautiful!!

  • I went to see Margo because of all the good reviews online I read. When I made my appointment, I specified to see Margo but they informed me upon arrival that Margo doesn't physically do the alterations anymore. Regardless, Margo has a great eye on how to make the dress work when another seamstress at Eltsa said "it's impossible." I had my dress taken in, boning added to keep the fabric from bending at the top of my strapless dress (which required ribbon to be added), and bra pads added. It was a bit more expensive than I had anticipated but they were good at keeping me informed of all additional costs. Overall I'm very happy with the dress; hope I can breathe and sit in it the day of! Definitely would go back again!
