  • I recently had to plan a rehearsal dinner for my son. A friend recommended I call Distinctive Event Rentals for the items I needed. I made an appointment and was helped by Norma. Norma was wonderful. She was such a big help with ideas and suggestions. I was very impressed with the quality and selection at Distinctive. Even though the colors we had to use were unusual, they had everything we needed available. Norma even helped with table decoration suggestions. We chose a rustic lantern. Everything was beautiful. I was so pleased. The planner for the venue took photos of our dinner to use in their advertising packet. Distinctive made everything so easy. Pickup and return was a breeze and their prices were so reasonable. I had never thought to use a rental company before. I will use Distinctive again and I will definitely recommend them to others.

  • There are many event rental companies in the Hampton roads area, but DER is the best. Several years ago, I had the pleasure of working in the wedding industry and I was able to see their products as well as all the other event rental companies in the area and I knew that DER stood above the rest. They take pride in their work and strive to make your event as special as possible. Their staff works very hard at delivering, setting up, breaking down, cleaning and laundering your rental needs and it shows in their selection of rental options. I just got married and knew that I would be using them from day one. They provided all my rental needs. I was very happy with all the rentals as well as with the prices I paid.   • Distinctive Event Rentals provided the tent, tables, chairs, bars, and all of the catering rentals for my reception, and everything was wonderful!! From the start, Laura was so great to work with - she was helpful in answering my questions, patient as I changed my mind probably more times than could be counted, and always positive and optimistic about the weather as I worried about my outdoor reception. The week of, as the forecast called off and on for storms, she was a huge help in guiding us to the best decisions with cancellations. When the set up guys came the day before, they were flexible and kind as we made a few small adjustments to where the tent would be set up. It did in fact downpour at our reception, but we had the time of our lives, and the tent was PERFECT for protecting us from the elements!   • We cannot believe how satisfied we are with Distinctive Event Rentals. We rented the scuba chair covers for our wedding at CNU and they really made the reception ballroom look beautiful and modern along with the lighting. Our point of contact at Distinctive was Alison McPherson and she by far made our experience with Distinctive painless. She was very professional, timely, and pleasant to speak with via email and phone. Their operations were extremely flexible for our wedding time frame, as well. We made adjustments to our contract numerous times (due to the change in the amount of guests coming to the wedding) and we did not encounter any issues asking for those changes. To top it off, we did not have to be present at CNU for the crew to drop off or pick up our rental equipment, which made scheduling around the wedding easier. We will absolutely recommend Distinctive Event Rentals to anyone who is having a wedding in the Williamsburg-Norfolk area.

  • Distinctive Event Rentals was a tremendous help in the planning and execution of our daughter's wedding two weeks ago. Norma Freesmeier was a good ear, a problem solver, and great sage of advice. The company delivered their products to us in great condition and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it for the reception. Everyone I talked to at the company was polite and professional. I cannot recommend them highly enough. When my next child gets married, I will use them again.

  • Distinctive Event Rentals was top notch from the awesome event specialist Laura, to the ground crew and everyone in between! As a mother of the bride who had to plan this event many miles from home they were extremely helpful to both myself and my daughter! They were always flexible with work schedules, helpful in making suggestions and keeping cost in line with the event, they even took the time to meet me and my daughter at the venue! The ground crews were equally as impressive, timely, professional and set my mind at ease. I highly recommend this company to anyone planning an event! I do not often take the time to write reviews, but they deserve high praise from helping to make my daughter's wedding a big success!!!

Norma worked with us throughout the entire process, offering up common sense advice and making sure we had everything squared away. Their rental system is great because it allows you to make the necessary changes based on the needs for your event. We made changes to our order 36 hours before the order went out for delivery and everything worked out great. Also, Bill, the owner is a great guy. He genuinely wants the customer's experience to be great.

  • I had an outdoor wedding and used Distinctive for pretty much all my rentals. The tent was beautiful! I rented lighting, linens, napkins, silverware, plates, glasses, stage, and dance floor from them and everything was very nice. They have a large selection of rentals and the customer service is awesome. Alison was my go-to girl. She is wonderful to work with and has great ideas to help with decor. She helped me tons and it turned out beautiful!!

  • We couldn't be happier with the service Distinctive Event Rentals provided. Our wedding was 100 times better than we ever expected. They pay close, thoughtful attention to every detail and the equipment is high-quality. Everything from our tent, chandeliers, linens and chairs were beautiful. Distinctive is responsive, flexible and reliable. We highly recommend using their services and equipment.

  • I was the caterer for this wedding's rehearsal dinner; I came with the customer to Distintive's showroom; we dealt with Norma; she took time with us to set tables until the customer had picked out everything they needed. She took time to let the customer decide and gave many options to choose from. The Family Life Center was transformed into a beautiful dining hall. We have used this rental company for many events in the past and would highly recommend them and will use them in the future.

  • The thing we loved about Distinctive was that we could get it ALL in one place. No running around for different items from numerous places. They were great about suggesting little things that add just the touch, but also clueing us in on easy ways to stay in the budget. We toured their huge (and still expanding) facility, where linens, tables, chairs, dishes, and silver were perfectly organized and well cared for. The staff were all quite friendly and clearly love doing a good job. We were so glad to have the flooring and tent all set up slightly ahead of schedule--it was that August Saturday when we got buckets more rain than predicted. It was perfect inside the tent, and with a well working sound system we could all be heard just fine above the pitter-patters. Distinctive made it a day full of happy memories.

  • Distinctive Event Rentals was great to work with. I visited the showroom beforehand and really appreciated how everything was laid out so you could really see it. They even took us in the back to view parts of the gazebo that I planned to rent. I rented tall silver vases for my wedding, linens, chiavari chairs, and a wrought iron arbor. Overall I was very please with the quality of everything, except one of the vases leaned in its base, and couldn't be set straight. I paid extra to have the items delivered within a two hour time window, and they came within that time frame. I didn't expect it to take quite so long for the guys to set up the gazebo (over an hour) and that put us behind a bit schedule since we were draping it with fabric. Otherwise the finished product looked great, and the decor adding a lot to my wedding and reception.
