  • Abe and Jake's was everything I could have asked for in a venue. The renovations made the place look absolutely perfect, and my guests kept complimenting me on its beauty and character. I love the giant windows and deck overlooking the river, and the grand staircase made for such a fun entrance. The coordinators and bar staff were outstanding. Make sure you book early!

  • We were so thrilled when Abe & Jake's sold a year ago and they opened up the 2013 calendar. We immediately booked our daughter's wedding reception there. We had been looking in Kansas City for similar venues but could find none that compared in beauty or value. From the very beginning, Rosie Robertson walked us through every step of the planning process. She was very accessible, knowledgeable, organized and professional. The night of our event (August 3, 2013) could not have been more perfect. Everything was just as expected. Our out of town guests from California were awed and amazed at the venue. Recent renovations surprised the Lawrence residents. Another plus is that the Springhill Marriott is right next door to the venue and downtown is just steps away. All of the staff were very efficient and worked hard to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The bartending staff was especially good. I do not remember people waiting in line for drinks. We cannot say enough about Abe... Read more

  • We got married on 7/27, and we were so lucky to get into Abe & Jake's! They removed a lot of the, umm, quirky features during renovations, and we were thrilled with the outcome. The refinished floors are gorgeous. We were also excited because Abe & Jake's has so much character on its own, we really didn't have to bring in many decorations at all. The open loft style is perfect for a reception, and really is a one of a kind venue. There are different levels and areas to hang out in, but it is still open enough that you can see everyone. We had a large number of out of town guests, so being located next to the hotel was a necessity. They are were so complimentary of the venue. Rosie was by far the best contact person to work with out of all of the different vendors we used for our wedding. She was always quick to respond to questions, and was so flexible to make things work for us. It was a stress-free day, and I will give her the credit for such a successful day! Definitely recommended!

  • Abe & Jakes proved to be a delightful and fun-filled venue to host my daughter's wedding. There is so much spacious room that the guests never felt crowded. The unique decor was enjoyed by all and not a lot of decorating was needed to make the event festive. Rosie, the events coordinator, is the best. She is very professional and does her best to make your wishes come true without asserting her own opinions. She is calm and handles all requests quickly. The staff for the evening were equally competent. Our guests were from Iowa and we received nothing but compliments on such a fun place for a reception. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone! We had a blast!!!

  • My husband and I are thrilled we chose Abe & Jake's as our wedding reception venue. We had a guest count of 500 and it held everyone, plus 4 food vendors, perfectly. Rosie was an absolute delight to work with. She treated us like family from day one. The reception (all 7 hours of it) ran so smoothly, the bartenders were great and the food vendors were set up perfectly. We are still receiving compliments on Abe & Jake's. The entire space is so impressive and unique. I couldn't imagine having our reception in any other venue.

  • Abe & Jake's was a wonderful event space with an interesting industrial and vintage ambiance. It really worked for our themed wedding! The recent renovations made it even more charming. Rosie, the event coordinator, is very friendly, professional, and helpful. She made the experience fun and easy. Plus, she was able to answer any questions before you ask. I would easily recommend Abe & Jake's to anyone needing a large event space.

  • Oh my goodness...where do I start? Our adventure with Abe & Jake's started almost 2 years ago when we were looking for a venue for my daughter's wedding reception. The building was up for sale but we loved the venue and most of all we loved working with Rosie. Long story short, the building sold and it was uncertain if it would still be used for events such as wedding receptions. We checked into "Plan B" but was not as happy as we were with Abe & Jake's. At the last minute, before we signed on the dotted line, we called one last time, just in case Abe & Jake's was available. Good news!!! Just the week before the new owners had opened up the 2013 season and the venue was our's if we still wanted it!!! We were extremely happy and relieved to have found the venue of our dreams for the happy event. Rosie is an absolute delight to work with. We cannot express our gratitude enough to her for all she did for us. The day and night of the event proved we were right in selecting Abe & Jake's. Th... Read more

  • It was our 50th wedding anniversary party. I can't say enough about the helpfulness of Rosie and other Abe & Jakes people. They were invariable cheerful and smoothed the way on every front. They worked very well with the caterers, decorators, and DJ. The place is just outstanding for a party of this sort: plenty of room and a definite funky flair. Our guests still tell us, a year later, how much they enjoyed the party. And we cherish fond memories of it.

  • I would highly recommend Abe & Jake's to any couple looking for a venue! The space is so unique and spacious and has great visual impact even without decorations! There are also a ton of amazing places to take photos from the deck with the river in the background, to the phone booth, to the grand staircase where you make your entrance, to the entryway tunnel, by the stained glass, and the options go on and on! Our photographer loved it and we got some wonderful pictures! I also loved the flexibility we had to choose our own caterer so we were able to save a lot of money because we weren't locked into having the venue cater like other places require. One of the best things about Abe & Jake's was the friendliness and professionalism of the staff! They take care of all the details so you don't have to worry about them! The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that your planning is smooth and efficient and your night is as special as it can be!

  • Abe and Jake's provides a spectacular setting for a reception. Outside there is a large desk that overlooks the river; my guests liked to retire there in-between dancing and other things. The interior needs little decoration as it is dotted with cast sculptures, a fountain, lights and other fun stuff to see. The staff, Rosie and Ryan, and the bartenders were SO AMAZING! They took care of our every need and were a joy to work with. If you live near Lawrence your reception MUST be here; you won't regret it, but book early because they are really popular!

  • Originally, all I could do was rave about Abe & Jake's! The event manager was great and so nice and we got a great deal for doing a Friday wedding. Plus, they're really really flexible and let us pretty much do whatever we wanted re: caterers, decorating, etc. It wasn't until the last 2 weeks before the wedding that I got frustrated. Because of Kansas state liquor laws, they had to order and provide all alcohol. Fine. My fiancee wanted a special kind of beer from a local brewery and they said they would try to get it for him. Great! Well, he called the event manager and the day-of manager (for lack of better term) twice and asked the status of his beer and nobody ever called him back, each after reassuring him they would. That was a bit frustrating. Then, 2 days before the wedding, the event manager mentions to my mom that she's glad the weather looks good for the wedding day b/c their roof leaks. WHAT?! They never, EVER mentioned that and to me, that's an egregious error. If it start... Read more
