I will first say that the Yacht Club was a BEAUTIFUL location. Please beware of false advertising regarding the level of service that you will receive. My husband and I both work long weeks, travel, and do not have any friends and family living in Virginia. When we visited the Yacht Club and met with Sue, our wedding coordinator (AKA saleperson), she assured us that the "all inclusive" packages were perfect for busy professionals such as ourselves, and she would help "every step of the way" through the wedding". About 2 months before my wedding, I had scheduled an appointment with Sue to bring my Maid of Honor (who came in from out of town) to the venue. Sue stood us up. She did not show, and claimed that I had cancelled the appointment. She later realized that she had gotten confused, and of course apologized. This was very disappointing for me, especially due to poor response we had received from her up until that point. To make things worse, the Monday before the wedding, I went to the venue to drop off all of our wedding materials. A very nice man helped me carry things in from my car. When he saw our guest book, which was a glass picture frame, he said he wanted to go get Sue to see where he could put it to ensure it did not break. Now, first, you would think she would come out and greet a bride who is getting married in 5 days. Not so much. To make things worse, Sue didn't see me standing out in the lobby, and made some snide remarks about me when the employee asked where we could put my guest book. She had a smurk on her face and said, "oh, THAT girl will FLIP if that breaks"....when I announced that "THAT GIRL was standing right there"....she responded with surprise and the fakest, nicest attude I have ever seen. I could see right through her at that point, and it was EXTREMELY disturbing and disappointing. Not to mention, UNPROFESSIONAL. Not happy with Sue at all. She made our planning extremely stressful.
While this venue is beautiful, do not fall for the "all inclusive package". This is no where near all inclusive and as a matter of fact provides no discount at all(my brother is getting married elsewhere and has booked the same DJ at the same rate). It simply locks you in to only using their vendors and provides you no flexibility in choosing less expensive vendors should you choose to or need to. A lot of what they tell you up front is not the whole truth so please do your research when booking here. The wedding we threw here we could have had at the Hilton on 31st for about the same cost. Also sue was very polite at first but the day of was rude to my bridal party because we moved their bags out of the changing suite so I could have clutter free pictures while getting ready and made them put them all back in. I was not pleased. If I knew then what I know now I probably would not have booked there.
Our wedding took place July 13, 2013 and it was everything we wanted it to be and more! We had our ceremony and reception there and they both went wonderfully!
A few little things, that I would have wanted to know about...We marked value a 3.5 because we felt like the packages were deceiving in the overall cost. My husband and I were told one price and it nearly doubled by the end (& we didn't add anything more than was listed in the package)! The time between the ceremony and reception was a little stressful, we were told that someone would be there to help us make sure things ran smoothly, but my photographer had to do most of the running around figuring things out. Definitely have a wedding planner that day to help...
I absolutely fell inlove w/ the YCAMS! It was a great fit for my groom & I because we live in Hawaii but all of our family is from the east coast. We needed a beautiful venue w/package options & that's what this venue gave us!
Now the details, we sat down w/ Sue & figured out what vendors we wanted & how many guests we expected. Sue's title is Wedding Coordinator (I think) but she is more of a sales person. I found her very sweet & personable but didn't really interact w/ her much after I signed the contract. When I asked her questions she was prompt w/ her responses! However, I worked w/ the vendors directly. When the wedding was nearing, Sue sent a checklist & requested ceremony info. We had very limited time to decide what vendors we wanted to work w/ after booking. Do not expect flexibility here. Pretty much, if you don't buy it from YCAMS vendors, you can't have it. However, I was able to bring in a videographer, 2 wedding planners & DIY items.
We had the Diamond package but ended up adding LOTS of extras. It is interesting to me that this was not monitored by YCAMS or mentioned or discounted for upgrading our package.
Black Iris Floral we added: lighting package, lounge, ice sculpture w/ luge, premium table cloths, candy bar & MORE. I wasn't exactly sure what we got standard w/the Diamond deal because it did not seem like much. Some of the packages inclusions were unclear.
Incredible Edibles we added an extra layer, rock candy design elements & a rented stand.
Photography, no add-ons but if YCAMS would have noticed that we added things that would make it a higher package anyway, we would have had more hours for our photography.
Astro DJs: we added TV package, karaoke & photo booth
Cuisine & Co.: champagne glasses & an extra hors d'oeuvres
I wish this review could be higher but I was wowed by the venue itself not necessarily the service. I am willing to change the review if I missed something important. I like to be honest & thorough!
We chose the YCMS because of the outdoor covered deck and beautifully decorated inside for the reception. Wile it did not rain on our day, the ceiling fans on the deck kept everyone cool nonetheless and made the summer wedding more bearable for all. Sue accommodated our financial constraints when we started planning this wedding 15 months ago as my father was switching jobs and living in Afghanistan, at that. While the evening appeared rushed to my husband and I, envy one enjoyed themselves. The only thing I would change is possibly adding another hour or two to the reception time to allow us to truly enjoy ourselves on the most important day in our lives. Kudos to YCMS for a beautiful wedding.
The Yacht Club is a beautiful location for a wedding. We got married on the new deck of the Yacht Club Room and then had our reception inside the Yacht Club room, both which were set up beautifully.. We were blessed with a beautiful day and the set up was perfect. Sue was helpful and nice during the wedding planning process, but was less helpful on the actual wedding day. My mother-in-law was running late and she came down into the dressing room and informed us that the reception downstairs was going to begin and she could not hold it off. It appears the timing was not planned very well for our ceremony and the new Coastal rooms reception.. So, during our ceremony we had to hear the singer hired downstairs. This was partly our fault, of course, but with the stress of the wedding day, I didnt feel it was approached in the best manner. We were also told we could not keep our belongings in that room because it could not be locked. I ended up having to take all my makeup (no touchups for me) and other items to the car, only to come down later and find the door was locked! We also asked to extend our ceremony another hour, which would cause us to pay more!, but we were informed it was too late... seems the staff wasn't interested in working another hour. As soon as the clock hit 11, lights were on and staff was clearing the place out.. Not the nicest way to end our night. Overall, I loved the view, the set up, and my family, friends, and my own DJ made the experience absolutely wonderful. The vendors that are included in the package do work together very well, and the package option makes it very convenient and reduces stress of trying to hire each vendor separately. Since it was our wedding day, we didn't let these details get us down, but we were just a little disappointed with some aspects. Despite some of the difficulties, this venue has many positives and we were satisfied with the overall event!
I had my wedding at the Yacht Club and yes it was very beautiful from the chivalri chairs to the lighting , the room glowed. The negatives would be that you have to work with their preferred vendors and sometimes that was difficult, because they have their vision which may not neccessarily be yours so you need to speak up. I didn't care for the food at all, but I had no choice because they were preferred. Also, the prices rose quickly from their package deals which happens with any wedding but make sure you are really reading what your getting for the money:) Sue was fantastic and was always there to answer any questions, they were very professional and overall the wedding was truly a fairy tale.
We had a great wedding and the venue was nice, but we did have a few problems. We brought decorations in to be set up ahead of time and were told to write out specific instructions about what we wanted done with them, and most of those weren't followed (ie: the place cards weren't alphabetized, the programs were placed inside rather than out where people were walking in to be seated so only about 1/2 our guests got them, the "guest book" was in the same place the bridal party was told to wait prior to the start of the ceremony so guests kept walking in where we were all standing). Our main issues were with the florist (Black Iris Floral) and our contact person for Cuisine and company. Unfortunately you have to use these vendors if you book a wedding there, and although the food is really good, it pretty much feels like a wedding factory when you're dealing with them and the flower person is not very pleasant. All in all a good experience, but it would be nice if you had more flexibility with the food and flowers, and ideally they would start setting up earlier so you'd have enough time to run by before the ceremony to make sure things are set up the way you want them.
We loved our wedding at the Yacht Club! It is a stunning location and was absolutely perfect for what we had imagined. I could not be happier with how the night turned out. The decks are stunning and the reception rooms are white with clean lines so they will match any theme. Sue was great at accommodating our wishes and getting in touch with vendors for me when I could not. The problem was with the "all-inclusive" deal. The prices they quote you at are for the bare minimum and you have to use their preferred vendors. You have to meet with each vendor and of course, you'll want to upgrade at many of them like we did. Make sure you price everything out before you sign a contract. It may even be beneficial to meet with the preferred vendors and get a ballpark figure of how much what you want is going to cost, because chances are what you want is not part of the package. My husband and I were expecting to pay somewhere around our quoted price. When everything was said and done that price was nearly doubled! However, everything was perfect and we truly got what we paid for! The only other negative is there is hardly any flexibility. You have to use their preferred vendors. That is a positive and a negative. Positive because it's a one-stop-shop. Negative because you may not be getting the best value or exactly what you want.
My experience with the Yacht Club at Marina Shores was overall very good. I absolutely adored my wedding and wouldn't change it for...
I had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Yacht Club at Marina Shores on October 19,2012. Overall, I was very pleased with the final result of everything with the exception of a few things. The decor was beautiful, and my guests had a wonderful time! The one thing that was bothersome for us was that we spent a considerable amount of time on our table's seating charts and table locations within the room, and the day of, it was all over the place! We stratigically placed certain tables with certain guests at them, and when my groom and I looked around the room at our reception, no one was where they were supposed to be. Not sure how this happened, but someone dropped the ball. We still had a great time, and the food was fantastic. If you are a detail oriented person, and like things to be presise, just make sure your voice is heard. We were given the "busy" excuse for a lot of our concerns along the way. I think that vendors sometimes forget that this is our one big day. They do this everyday, so it is easy to brush things off sometimes. The Yacht Club is a beautiful location, and I am sure the pictures will be amazing. I kept holding out hope that my groom and I would be mentioned on the Yacht Club's facebook page, along with all the other Yacht Club weddings, with some of our photos or just congrats. That would have been a sweet touch.
Jennifer from marina shores was my HERO! When I had issues with there preferred vendors she fixed them, when I needed her opinion she was there, and she totally understood my vision and helped make by reception venue look FABULOUS!
We chose the Yacht Club because we loved the room and the view that they offer, not to mention the cost of $5995 for 100 guests! That includes your photographer, the food, the cake, and florist. However, for the package price to stay $5995, you can't add anything to it. And of course I added somethings, but the price was still great!
Everything looked gorgeous when we got there and everyone was so helpful and friendly. They made sure that my husband and I had everything that we needed. The only complaint that we had, as well as our guests, was that it was SUPER hot in there which made it harder to enjoy because we were sweating. They did add a couple of fans around so that we could stand in front of the fans to cool off. But I really wish it would have been cooler in there, we would have enjoyed ourselves a lot more. We ended up leaving early just to cool off!
I would recommend them for sure, but maybe not on the hottest months of the year!
The Yacht Club at Marina Shores appealed to us because of the stunning location and packages that were offered. The packages were awesome because literally everything was included! You just had to customize. Having quality vendors to choose from eliminated the hassle of interviewing a million not-so-quality vendors. Just a warning, it is easier to spend more than the advertised "package price" due to the sales tax not factored in as well as a few add-ons/upgrades. Our wedding day went so smoothly and was beautiful and the Yacht Club and their vendors were to blame for that!
The Yacht Club was the perfect venue for our special day! The group of vendors works very well together and they provide great quality and tailored services. We were able to change the date to a day that was better for us and they were very understanding about our unique circumstances. Things couldn't have gone any better! Sue is a godsend! She monitored the entire event to make sure everything was perfect! We couldn't be happier with our venue choice!
There was a bit of confusion when it came to the set-up of the venue...I was notified a week before the wedding that I was supposed to let them know how I wanted the room set up...I had a lot on my plate at that point, so I think this should have been communicated much sooner. But everything worked out great anyway :)
I would definitely recommend The Yacht Club to anyone on a budget who wants something elegant and tasteful but isn't willing to give up her first born!
Sue provides excellent service to her brides! The location is gorgeous and parking is ample! Perfect for brides who want "waterfront" locations without the cost of the oceanfront (plus you're just minutes away from perfect beach photos!). Only complaint is the room was downright HOT upon guest arrival and didn't seem to cool down until well into the reception.
I got married at the Yacht Club back in April and it was great. The ceremony was out on the deck looking out at the marina and all the boats and houses, everyone loved it. I live in the DC area so my coordinator, Jennifer, was very responsive and very flexible with me as I don't live in the Virginia Beach area. Everything came together nicely and the week of Jennifer made sure everything was good to go and helped me though what I needed to do. If you want to get married in the Virginia Beach area, check out the Yacht Club and ask for Jennifer. She'll be able to answer all your questions and help you with what you need and want.
I had a great experience working with Jennifer and the Yacht club. SHe was accomodating, and was always ready to cater, answer our questions, and very efficient! Thank you so much again for making my wedding planning so easy and smooth, and making my wedding an unforgettable one!
I just got married at the yacht club last weekend (6/12/10). I took part in the wedding package that included the venue, caterer, flowers, cake, and photographer. I could not be happier with the result. The vendors all worked together throughout the process and my evening went SEAMLESSLY. My entire wedding planning experience with this group of vendors was wonderful. They are professionals through and through, and from start to finish pulled my entire wedding (ceremony and reception) off without one hitch. It was the best day of my life, and I am so very thankful to Sue and all of the vendors!
The Food At My Wedding Was So Delicious people where saying yum as they ate I had more people tell me how wonderful my wedding was the room, the lighting ,the service, the flowers, the linens. I was so impressed that our food was on sliver platters and the cheese and crackers where not like something you see at a picnic it was artfully displayed and i can not say enough about Cuisine & Co. Sue &Todd helped me and followed up 3 or 4 times the week of our wedding the room looked like I paid a million dollars this package was worth every dime
Our wedding reception took place at The Yacht Club at Marina Shores and it was simply beautiful. Sue made sure everything was going right from day one. She was very sweet and professional. The venue and the location was great! Our guest could not get enough of how pretty it was, inside and out. We had a great wedding and we would chose The Yacht Club again! Thank you Sue for making our day so memorable. I wish the night lasted forever!
